HISTORY of PAKNAAN

Life has HISTORIES. And these histories are what we're holding on to know the things that happened before we reside such place or use such thing. And by now, I'm starting to ask the ancestors how we got the name of PAKNAAN.

When I was on my first year high school, someone told us something about the history of our barrio. She told us this, "The nature was the close friend of our dear Aetas. They were always blessed as they lived in the forests with wild beasts around them. Trees were so tall, the air were so fresh, the birds were singing as the Aetas were starting to hunt for their food. The best weapon they always carry during this time were the bows and arrows. It was their daily routine during hunt time." and from that way of living of Aetas, the name Paknaan given to this barrio is from the word Pana-an in accordance to the tales handed down by the ancestors. The tale refers to a place where a kind of weapon called pana (bows & arrows) was used by the people as a defense in fighting against the Moros who kept raiding their place every now and then during the Spanish Era. As time  wrought changes to the conditions and status of such place, so has the name became Paknaan.

In fact, the design of our church was derived from the pana.
